An Evening Out...

Funny. In Espana you refer to your wife as your "mujer" This is my "woman" I like that in a sort of a latin/macho way. Anyway, My mujer and I had a perfect night on the town. It was unplanned - which made the wonder of it all the better... We arrived in Atoche Train station in the warm early evening. Inside the station is a small but wonderful botanical garden. There is no trace of the Madrid train bombings any longer.

We went to see Pirates of the Carribean at Cine Ideal, which plays movies in their original language. Nice creepy adventure with my mujer, looking up at the screen eating spanish popcorn and trying not to read the subtitles.

Afterward we went for tapas. We had squid rings and patatas bravas, along with simple beverages. The bar was not crowded and had been around for many, many years. The interior was a mixture of peeling yellow paint and dark wood. What made the evening magical was that both Roamer and I shared a familiarity with our surroundings but were focused on one another. We were relaxed and enjoying the quiet evening in an exotic place that seemed like home.

Afterwards we went for a late-night walk in the heavily ornate and overtly elegant streets of Madrid, sipping mint tea and strolling beneath softly glowing lamps and rustling leaves before boarding our train later in the evening to head back home.

Can I maintain my masculinity while still commenting that the pictures look magical? Sounds like a great night out.

I have been in that train station with the nifty botanical garden. I recall how the air was quite humid, but what really struck me was how everyone was smoking... it seemed much more pervasive than in any other European country I had visited as of yet. Was that station one of those that was bombed? I had not made that connection before.

It was a fun night. We had said we'd go to the movies that night and somehow the train was so slow, we thought we weren't going to make the movie. We had to dash through the Puerta del Sol crowd, and walked in with our popcorn as the movie started. A very fun night. Thanks, marido.

As for the smoke, Doc, they've outlawed smoking in public places but small restaurants and bars can choose to be smoking or non. They mostly choose smoking. The bigger places can have sections. Seems like the gardens are less smoky.
